YouTube has not officially announced detailed reasons. It is widely believed to relate to “improving service quality” and “supporting content creators.” In recent years, YouTube has invested heavily in upgrading streaming technology, strengthening copyright protection, and increasing creator revenue sharing, with rising costs likely passed on to users.
The new prices will automatically apply to existing users. If you do not wish to continue, cancel in advance to avoid being charged at the new rate.
YouTube strictly cracks down on VPN-based cross-region subscriptions. Violators may have their accounts suspended or terminated. It is advised to subscribe at local prices to avoid risks.
If you only need music, you can subscribe to YouTube Music Premium separately, which is more economical.
The 2025 YouTube Premium price hike in Hong Kong is significant, with the family plan at HK$208 per month becoming the focus of attention. The new Duo Plan offers a new choice for small households, but overall prices are now on par with or even exceed global streaming giants. Users are advised to choose the most suitable plan based on their needs, pay attention to auto-renewal and updated service terms, spend wisely, and enjoy uninterrupted entertainment.
