Takamatsu is the capital of Kagawa Prefecture in Japan, as well as an important hub connecting to Shikoku Island. Takamatsu is close to the beautiful Seto Inland Sea, it is a great city for a getaway, the landscape is spectacular while shopping and gourmet food are also unforgettable. The well known Sanuki udon is the prefecture's representative local dish, don’t miss out if you’re an udon fan!

Ritsurin Garden -
Beautiful Japanese garden

The Ritsurin Garden is one of Japan's finest landscape gardens, and a place of special scenic beauty. The garden is massive and also the largest Cultural Property Garden in all of Japan. It is an important cultural asset that has been maintained for nearly 400 years.

Full of seasonal beauty year round, this natural sanctuary is particularly spectacular in the spring for cherry blossom viewing, or in fall to catch vibrant autumn colors of the leaves. For those who want to experience a traditional Japanese garden, you can also find a pond, boat ride, teahouse and the best pine tree in the garden.

Ritsurin Garden

Take a digital camera with you for the walk, capture the scenic view in high resolution and do not miss every single detail. You can use cherry blossoms as the main objective in the picture, let it take most of the space in the picture, and create a depth of field.

Takaya Shrine

Takaya Shrine was selected as one of the 88 views in Kagawa, famous for its torii gate and stone steps. The torii gate at the main shrine, known as the sky view torii gate. 270 stone steps lead from the lower shrine at the foot of the mountain to the main shrine, it takes around 50 minutes to climb up. Gaze out on the Seto Inland Sea and the city of Kan-onji from the 404-meter tall peak. When the weather is clear, you can even see Mt. Ishizuchi, the highest mountain in Shikoku.

In spring, when festivals are held, you can see the cherry blossoms in full bloom and different traditional Japanese performances.

Yashima - Roof Island

Yashima (“Roof Island”) is a towering volcanic plateau just east of central Takamatsu. As its name suggests, the island is covered by lava plateau and shaped as a roof. It offers mountaintop views of the Takamatsu cityscape and the numerous islands dotting the Seto Inland Sea. From the observation deck, you can enjoy a fantastic landscape where island shapes rise out of the sea, bathed in the orange light of the setting sun—one of the Top 100 Sunset Views in Japan. As the day fades, the soft lights of the city appear below for an incredible nighttime scene.

Another site of historical interest on Yashima is Yashimaji Temple, the classic red torii is super IG-able. You can walk, drive, or take a bus to the peak to enjoy scenic views of Takamatsu and the islands of the Seto Inland Sea.

There are 8 shopping arcades located in the center of Takamatsu City, which are collectively known as the Central Takamatsu Shopping Arcades. These outdoor shopping arcades, which stretch out in all directions, are almost entirely covered, and with a combined length of 2.7 km, they form the longest shopping arcade in Japan.

There are different types of merchants, shops, restaurants, souvenir stores along the arcade. Weather is no longer a concern while shopping.
