There are many tablet computers available on the market each with a different specification, price and brand. But which one will be right for you? And what should you consider before buying? Check out our recommendations!

Factors to consider when choosing a tablet computer

1. Operating system

There are mainly four types: IOS, Android, Windows and HarmonyOS

Apple users will probably prefer the iPad (iOS). In addition to its high compatibility and ability to connect to different Apple devices, its stability and simple layout is one of the major reasons people prefer to use this operating system.

Google’s Android provides smooth web browsing and apps such as Google Maps and Gmail which are popular. The system also supports multi-user registration which is convenient for sharing among friends and family.

Windows offers professional specifications and can be described as a minicomputer supporting Microsoft apps such as Excel and Word which are great for working from home.

HarmonyOS is a new cross-platform operating system developed by Huawei. The system is compatible with Android apps and meets the needs of multiple devices via a single system synthesising as a "super terminal" for resource sharing.

2. Wi-fi vs LTE vs 5G

Most tablets only support Wi-Fi. If you need to access the Internet everywhere, you need a tablet with an LTE data service or 5G Internet access. Note that tablets with LTE data or 5G service are pricier than those with wi-fi only.

3. Screen size

The average screen size is about 10-11” with 7-8” for small screens and 12” or above for larger screens. Many brands launch different screen sizes based on users’ needs for work or entertainment.

4. Storage capacity

In general, apps and music, video and photo libraries take up a lot of storage space on a tablet. If you need to use your tablet to handle lots of files or apps, check the built-in storage capacity of the tablet before buying it. In case, you don't have enough space, you can still get a microSD memory card to expand capacity to 1TB or 2TB. Cloud storage is another great option to solve this issue.

In addition to the above factors, if you want to increase productivity, consider additional accessories such as a tablet touch pen. This lets you select files, and draw, or write simply by clicking on the screen. Some pens even come with an eraser function. Meanwhile, a wireless keyboard and mouse will improve work efficiency by connecting the tablet via Bluetooth for equipment pairing. Detachable keyboards also provide a stand case to store the stylus used in the device. The stand lets users type steadily anywhere, anytime as it is highly portable and can be detached easily.
