Spring is the season with the heaviest "dampness", especially in humid areas like Hong Kong. It can make people feel tired, heavy-headed, fatigued in the limbs, and even cause water retention or skin issues. According to Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), "dampness burdens the spleen", so one of the key focuses for spring wellness is to eliminate dampness and strengthen the spleen. This article recommends a few simple and effective soups ideal for spring, along with some high-value electric soup cookers that make soup-making easy and cleanup simple!

    Dampness in Spring Q&A

Q: What are the symptoms of excess dampness in spring?

A: When dampness is heavy in spring, common symptoms include feeling heavy-headed, fatigue in the limbs, water retention, bland taste in the mouth, poor appetite, and sometimes skin itching, acne, or digestive issues, all signs of internal dampness.

Q: Can I drink dampness-removing soup every day?

A: If the ingredients are mild (e.g. adzuki beans, coix seeds, chayote), you can drink it in moderation daily, but avoid overconsumption. It’s recommended to drink 2–3 times a week and observe your body’s response to avoid cooling the spleen and stomach too much.

Q: Is dampness-removing soup suitable for everyone?

A: Generally, healthy individuals can drink it. However, pregnant women, menstruating women, or those with weak digestion should avoid overly cooling ingredients (e.g. raw coix seeds). Opt for milder, spleen-strengthening versions or consult a TCM practitioner.

Q: What’s the difference between using an electric soup cooker and traditional stovetop cooking?

A: Electric cookers offer constant temperature control, timed cooking, and automatic keep-warm functions, ideal for busy households. While traditional stovetop cooking is more authentic, electric cookers are safer, more time-saving, and stable, less risk of burning or overcooking.

Q: Besides drinking soup, what are other ways to remove dampness?

A: In addition to drinking dampness-removing soups, you can also eat a light diet, avoid greasy and cold foods, engage in aerobic exercises (like walking or yoga), maintain good sleep and routines, or drink ginger tea or pu-erh tea to help the body expel dampness.
