Many of us sit at an office desk for more than 8 hours a day. We often lean forward, putting pressure on our waists and bend over without straightening our backs. This poor sitting posture can cause back pain and in serious cases a hunched back. Care for your body by choosing the right cushion to improve your sitting posture.

Types of Posture Cushion

1. General cushions

Made from cotton. When you sit for long periods of time, the cushion causes discomfort and poor heat dissipation due to a lack of ventilation. This type of cushion does not have any corrective effect on our sitting posture and does not protect the lower back or hips.

2. Ventilated cushions

Made of gel or other breathable materials, these reduces discomfort caused by the seat by keeping it cool, making it great for the hot weather in summer.

3. Ergonomic cushions

These are designed to support your lower back and hips and to distribute pressure. They makes it easier for users to maintain a balanced pelvis and a healthy S-curve in the spine. They also reduce muscle and back pain and relieve pressure. In the long run, they help to correct posture and maintain a proper sitting posture.

4. Chiropractic cushions

This cushion focuses on the lumbar area and follows the line of the back so that pressure on the lower back can be distributed. In addition to the lumbar area, the hips are also supported when sitting down. The pelvis is balanced and reduces the strain on the lower back.

Shopping Tips

1. Size

Choose the right size. Not too big, not too small to match the size of your chair. It’s ideal if it covers your entire hip area leaving room on the outside of the cushion.

2. Material

Available in different materials ranging from breathable and airier to cotton-like materials that are more difficult to dissipate heat. Choose a cushion made of gel for the summer. In winter, choose a material that retains heat. Don’t choose a fully elastic or rigid material, but rather a cushion that is moderately firm and soft.

3. Function

There are some specifically designed to support the hips or the buttocks and lumbar area. The choice of cushion should depend on which area needs the most support.

4. Budget

There is a wide range available. The more functional they are, the higher the price, but there are still lots of affordable choices.
