As a true music lover, you want to get the right speakers to listen to beautiful music and enjoy the best audio experience. If you are looking to buy two or more speakers, you can choose from mono, stereo or surround sound. To give you a better idea of the differences between the various speakers, here is an overview with some recommendations.

Major types of speakers

1. Mono

How it works: Audio signals are mixed together and transmitted through one single channel.

Advantages: Everyone hears the same audio signal and the sound is clear.

Best use: For sound expansion as it easily ensures audio signals come out loud and clear.

2. Stereo

How it works: Each speaker transmits to a separate channel. The volume and position of the sound on both left and right channels adjust accordingly.

Advantages: Locates the sound source, increases direction and distribution as well as improving the clarity and differentiation of the sound.

Best use: Almost all modern recordings are in stereo format so if you want to retain detail, space, layer and perspective in music, you need two speakers.

3. Surround sound

How it works: The number of speakers is increased to at least 5.1. Together with the surround sound source, it engulfs the listener by offering an all-round stereoscopic audio experience.

Advantages: In addition to retaining the direction of the original audio, it also produces surround and expansion effects. It can vividly reproduce the spatial reverberation of a performance hall with an increased sense of presence.

Best use: Playing TV or movies on a big screen. It greatly enhances a sense of presence and appeal by making any plot more realistic and vivid.
