The principle behind a circulation fan

The difference between a circulation fan and a normal fan is that the fan blade and the fan design create a column vortex air flow. This cyclonic air increases direct air speed so it can be blown farther and in a more concentrated manner. Air can be circulated and flow to every corner to effectively reduce room temperature.

How is it different from a normal fan?

The function of a fan is to disperse air quickly and to lower body temperature. It is not efficient at increasing air circulation in a room. During hot days, a fan takes longer to lower room temperature.

Meanwhile, a circulation fan is often used with an air conditioner. This circulates air so that the cool air can be blown to every corner of a room and cover areas that a normal fan cannot reach to cool the room in less time. In winter, a circulation fan can be combined with a heater to warm up a room in no time.

Pros of a circulation fan

1. Saves energy: Circulation fans circulate indoor air repeatedly, enhance air convection and bring the room temperature to the desired level quickly and efficiently. Set the temperature of an air conditioner between 25°C and 26°C, and for every 1°C increase in temperature, you save around 6% of electricity with a circulation fan.

2. Dehumidifies: As the air circulates, it effectively carries away moisture in the air to reduce humidity and speed up clothes drying.

3. Suitable for any season: They can be used with air conditioning and heating to enjoy stable temperatures throughout the year.

Cons of a circulation fan

Slow to reduce body temperature: The main function of a circulation fan is to quickly circulate air. As the air is more concentrated, it is not suitable for blowing directly on the body. If the purpose of a fan is to lower the body temperature quickly, a normal fan is more suitable.

Things to consider before buying

1. Circulating angle: Circulation fans are available in 90°, 180° and 360° angles. If you are looking for better air circulation, it is recommended to buy a 180° or 360° circulation fan for better air flow and indoor air circulation.

2. Easy to clean: Like normal fans, circulation fans require regular cleaning of the blades and cover. Buy models that are easy to remove and install. There are circulation fans that are bladeless which can be cleaned with a soft cloth, making them safer and easier to maintain.

3. Fan speed and volume: Choose from different modes, fan speeds, auto timers and manual timer features.
