  • The first Fortress is opened as a tariff collection centre and a means to promote the use of electricity, at Fortress Hill Road.
1985
  • Fortress introduces its own-label brand to the market, providing the best quality and at a competitive price.
  • With 22 outlets in Hong Kong, Fortress becomes the largest retailer in consumer electronics and household appliances.
1986
  • Fortress is acquired by Hutchison Whampoa, becoming a fully owned subsidiary of the Hutchison Group.
1990
  • Fortress joins the A.S. Watson Group.
1995
  • Fortress introduces personal computers to its product range for the first time at its new Sheung Shui outlet.
1996
  • Fortress launches its extended warranty offer. 
  • First Fortress World is opened at Whampoa Garden. Fortress becomes the first Hong Kong retailer to offer one-stop shop convenience in the electronics industry. 
1998
  • In cooperation with Hutchison Telecom, Fortress introduces mobile phones to its product range. 
2001
  • Fortress-brand air conditioners and refrigerators become the market leader.
        
2002
  •  Fortress tops the Specialty Stores Category in the Hong Kong Retail Management Association’s 2002 Service & Courtesy Awards.
2003
  • New Fortress is launched, ushering in a new era in Hong Kong consumer electronics and household appliance retail.
  • Under New Fortress, all Fortress outlets are to be re-categorized and re-formatted along three major lines: Fortress World, Fortress Digital and Fortress Vision
  • In January, the first Fortress Digital store was launched at the Metropolis with an entirely new shop layout and concept.
  • In June, the first Fortress Vision store and the first revamped New Fortress World are launched at Hankow Road, Tsim Sha Tsui and Festival Walk, Kowloon Tong respectively.
  • New Fortress introduces a variety of first-in-the-market customer services including the ‘24-Month Interest Free Installment’ Program; the most comprehensive Home Entertainment ‘Purchase-to-play’ Service; a ‘PAY THE DIFFERENCE’ policy that guarantees shoppers the lowest prices on every product, every day; and an ‘Emergency Replacement Service’ that guarantees ultimate satisfaction through the second year of product life. 
  •  New Fortress launches a multi-lingual customer service hotline to handle all customer concerns.
  • Fortress wins the 2003 Kam Fan Award, presented by The Association of Accredited Advertising Agents of Hong Kong, for its creative communications.
2004
  • 2004    l    Fortress is named as Hong Kong Merchants of Integrity by Guangzhou Daily, and for three consecutive years since then.
  • Fortress was awarded Superbrands.
  • Fortress launches another “Fortress first” with exclusive Ideal Gift List Service. Fortress gift ambassadors help couples compile a “wish list” of products for their new homes. The list is stored at a selected Fortress store conveniently located for friends and family to easily purchase the desired gift items.    
  • In March, “Fortress World” Flagship Store is launched at Times Square in Causeway Bay, offers most sophisticated consumer electronics and home appliance shopping environment and a wide range of product, for the best shopping experience to consumers. 
  • Fortress introduces its “Inspiring Smart Living” brand campaign, which mapped out the foundation for future brand development includes everything from new brand communications to operations enhancement.
2005
  • Fortress is awarded Metropolis Daily Print Ad Award 2004.      
  • Fortress pioneers the first-in-market ‘Digital Mix & Match’ Campaign, reinforcing its consistent effort to blend technological advancements into daily life and inspire shoppers towards smart living with the latest style trends from both the digital and fashion worlds.
  • Fortress is awarded My Best HK Brands 2005 (Gold Prize). 
  •  Re-launch of the Fortress website with enhanced features and shopping tips. The website set a new benchmark for service standards in the market and was awarded the 2005 WebAward Entry by the Web Marketing Association (WMA).
  • Fortress receives the HKMA/TVB Award for Marketing Excellence.
  •  Fortress joins the “Let’s Beat the Flu” Campaign.
2006
  • Fortress celebrates the 30th anniversary with HK$3 millions promotional offers and a donation of 30 notebook computers to Hans Anderson Club for needy children to learn and be inspired with the help of the latest technology. 
  • Fortress Academy is launched to set new service standard in consumer electronics retail market by providing a comprehensive training program for frontline sales professional.
  • Fortress launches the first-in-market ‘Music Moves Your Body’ Campaign, helping consumers enjoy music anytime, anywhere with a wide range of latest digital products and exceptional shopping incentive.
  • Fortress tops the Electronic & Electrical Appliances / Telecommunications Category in the Hong Kong Retail Management Association’s 2006 Service & Courtesy Awards. 
  • Fortress is named as one of the top 10 favourable brands in HK by Guangzhou Daily. 
2007
  • In 2007, Fortress continues to bring a better life to costumes by means of technology and make several breakthrough among the electronic consumer retailers.
  • Numerous booklets are issued and distributed in Fortress’ retail stores, contents ranged from DIY recipes on various dishes to tips of knowledge on household and school-studies. To accommodate needs from different customers, Fortress not only helped customers to make good use of electronic appliance but also provided suggestions of living wisdom.
  • Cooperating with electronic appliance suppliers, Fortress held a number of free seminars on different areas of interests including high-definition products, computers, digital cameras, home audio and video studio, to list just a few.  Plenty information on the popular products are conveyed to customers.
  • Fortress firstly established HD Zones in which a great variety of the latest and hottest HD digital products could found here. With the cooperation of TVB, shoppers can also watch exclusive high-definition TVB HD short movie productions to experience the benefits of HD.
  • Fortress pioneered the co-innovation with creative brands in creating our ‘home-made’ gifts so that customers can understand Fortress’ sincerity on providing the best service to customers.
